We traveled north today. The fence is the border between Israel and Jordan. Jordan river is just past the fence.

Essenes

These Jewish people copied the scrolls. These are near the caves. This is a photo of where they would have ceremonial cleansing.

Qumron caves

You can see 2 of the caves where the dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947.

Masada

King Herod had Masada built. Spent a ton of money. On one side he had this 3 tier palace built 1,000 ft high. This is a model. Herod only visited Masada one time!! He stayed at his other 5 or so palaces! Wasteful cruel person!

Impressive place! Great story of people who would not bow to serve Rome. 8 of us rode the cable car. 24 made the challenging climb successfully!!

Hotel

We were here 2 nights by the Dead Sea. Nice Hotel! We visited the south area of Israel and went within 50 miles of Egypt.
